FAQ

Locksmith FAQ — Richmond Hill, GA

Straight answers to the questions we hear most often. Don't see yours? Call and ask.

Are you a real local locksmith in Richmond Hill?

Yes. We're a locally operated mobile locksmith. Calls are answered locally and the technician you book is the technician who shows up.

What areas do you cover?

Richmond Hill, Pembroke, Black Creek, Ellabell, and the surrounding parts of Bryan County. We also handle case-by-case calls in nearby Pooler, Bloomingdale, and Hinesville. Full coverage details on the service area page.

Are you open 24/7?

We take after-hours emergency calls and respond when we can, but we don't staff a permanent overnight crew. Honest expectation: same-day during business hours, after-hours dispatched based on availability.

How do you price jobs?

Pricing depends on the type of work, the number of cylinders or doors, the vehicle (for automotive), and the time of day. Call us with your situation and we can talk through what is involved.

Do you charge to come look at the job?

For most work, the call to give you an estimate is free. If you're a long drive into rural Bryan County or beyond, we'll mention any trip considerations on the phone before driving out.

Can you make a car key without the original?

For most vehicles, yes. We pull the key code from the VIN (after verifying ownership), cut the new key, and program it to the car. Some newer European and high-security vehicles still require dealer-only programming and we'll tell you if that's the case.

How long does car key replacement take?

Spare keys with a working original: usually under 30 minutes. Lost-key situations: typically 45–90 minutes depending on the vehicle.

My fob just died. Do I need a new one?

Probably not — try a fresh CR2032 or CR2025 coin battery first. If that doesn't work, call us before buying a replacement fob.

Should I rekey or replace the locks after moving in?

Rekey, almost always. The locks themselves are usually fine — what you don't know is who has copies of the old key. Rekey changes the pins inside so old keys stop working.

When do I actually need a lock change instead of a rekey?

When the hardware is damaged, low quality, or you want a different style or smart features. Otherwise, rekey is cheaper and just as secure.

Can you install a smart lock I bought myself?

Yes. Bring the box. We'll inspect it before opening to make sure it fits your door.

What about the strike plate and door reinforcement?

Honest take: most residential break-ins kick in the door at the strike, not pick the lock. Replacing the short factory screws on the strike plate with 3-inch screws (or installing a security strike) is the cheapest meaningful upgrade you can make.

Will you damage my car or door during a lockout?

We use non-destructive entry as the first option. In most cases the door, frame, and lock are untouched after the call.

My child or pet is locked in a hot car. What should I do?

Call 911 first. They can break a window legally and immediately if temperature is dangerous. Then call us if you still want help.

Can you open a safe?

Most home and small commercial safes, yes. Brand, age, and condition matter — see the safe opening page for details.

Can you change my USPS cluster mailbox lock?

No — those are USPS property and only the Postal Service can change them. We can handle parcel lockers, owner-controlled mailboxes, and curbside boxes.

Do you do work for landlords and property managers?

Yes. Tenant turnovers, recurring rekeys, and on-call lockouts. We can set up a recurring arrangement.

Do I need ID for a lockout?

Yes. ID and proof of address or vehicle ownership before we open any door — that's how a real locksmith protects you from someone else getting access to your property.

How do I tell a real locksmith from a scam?

Real ones answer the phone with the actual business name, give you a real estimate before driving out, ask for ID and ownership proof, and bring a marked vehicle. If pricing on arrival is dramatically higher than what was quoted, push back or send them away.
