Car key replacement in Richmond Hill, GA

Lost your only key? Need a spare cut so the next dropped fob isn't a crisis? We come to the vehicle, cut the blade, and program the chip on site.

Replacement car keys are the single most common automotive call we get. The good news: for most vehicles built in the last two decades, we can make a new key without towing your car to the dealer.

Three situations we handle

1. Lost keys (no working key available)

This is the harder version. Without a working key, we either decode the door lock or cut from the vehicle's key code (which we can pull from the VIN once we verify ownership). Then we program the new key to the vehicle so the old one — wherever it is — won't start the car anymore. That's important: if you lost it at the beach, you don't want a stranger driving away with it.

2. Spare key (working key in hand)

Cheapest and quickest scenario. We cut a copy of the blade and clone or program the chip. A spare you keep at home is the difference between a $40 inconvenience and a $300 mid-day emergency. Worth doing before you need it.

3. Broken key

If the key snapped in the door or the ignition, we'll extract the broken half first, then cut and program a new one. Pieces left in the cylinder almost always have to come out before the new key will work.

Key types we work with

  • Basic mechanical keys — older vehicles with no chip.
  • Transponder keys — a chip in the head that the car must recognize. More on transponder keys.
  • Remote head keys — combined blade + remote in one unit.
  • Switchblade / flip keys — folding key with integrated remote.
  • Smart proximity fobs — push-to-start vehicles with no metal blade in normal use. More on fob programming.

What we need from you

Before we cut and program any key, we verify the vehicle is yours. That means:

  • Photo ID matching the name on the registration or title.
  • One of: current registration, title, or insurance card listing the vehicle.

This isn't bureaucracy — it's how a legitimate locksmith protects you from someone else getting a key cut to your car.

What it'll roughly cost

Pricing depends on the vehicle, the key type, and whether you have a working key. As rough ballparks (real number quoted on the call): a basic transponder copy with a working key is the cheapest scenario, a remote head or flip key runs more, and a proximity smart fob — especially with no working key — is the most expensive. Either way, you'll hear the number before we cut anything.

Where we work

Driveways in Richmond Hill, parking lots along Ford Avenue and Hwy 17, workplaces near the I-95 exits, and homes throughout Bryan County. If your car is somewhere we'd rather not work (busy roadway, dark unlit lot late at night), tell us when you call and we'll work out the safest spot.

Common questions

FAQs

Can you really make a key with no original?

Yes for most vehicles. We pull the key code from the VIN (after verifying ownership), cut the new key, and program it to the car so only the new key works.

Is it cheaper than a dealership?

In almost every case, yes — and you skip the tow. Dealer prices can also include a "key fee" plus a programming fee plus the tow.

How long does it take?

Spare keys with a working original: usually under 30 minutes. Lost-key situations: typically 45–90 minutes depending on the vehicle.

Do you do European cars too?

Some — call with the year, make, and model. A handful of high-security European vehicles still require dealer-only programming and we will tell you straight if that is the case for yours.
